UNM soccer player Michael Reed regularly finds himself shin deep in buckets of ice and wrapped up from knee to hip.

He said trainers and teammates make fun of him, but that's OK.

Reed is just happy to be here.

Reed, a sophomore, earned himself a starting position as a midfielder for the Lobos right out of high school but tore his meniscus before the 2006 season started.

Skiing Recap: UNM finished seventh at the NCAA Championships on March 8 and fifth at the NCAA West Regional on Feb. 23. Season highlight: The Lobos placed seventh out of 21 teams at the NCAAs. Karin Ohlin and Thomas Schwab earned All-American honors at the championships.

Professional poker must be considered a sport becasue there are millions of players all over the world playing various forms. Professional players actually earn a living by playing poker, much like other athletes.

Although it can be debated that the game may be played by anyone in almost any situation, one could argue that given the materials, any sport could be played by anyone at any place and time. There is also the argument that sports require an athletic activity such as running or jumping, and in most cases this is true. However, there are exceptions. The length of poker matches, which can last for days, is comparable to the length of most sporting events.

Mixed martial arts returned to Las Cruces with Southwest Fight Promotions organizing the event at the Pan American Center on Friday.

The event was only for amateur fighters, fighting not for money, but for a shot at the "big time," the ultimate goal for all fighters.
